We are daily in need of in-kind gifts for boosting the Club experience, such as learning supplies (paper, pencils, glue, rulers, etc.), age-appropriate books, board games, sports equipment and more. The 700 square-foot Art Cottage offers Club Members ages 6-18 the opportunity to experience art in a variety of media within a creative space, allowing the Club to fulfill its mission of inspiring and empowering young people to realize their full potential.

Facilities that can accommodate a large number of kids, staff and volunteers is a must for the Club. Facilities that are bright and functional and environmentally responsible are even better. Help us provide restrooms that are good for our kids and our planet.

Interior Remodel

Summary
Our Rock Creek Extension Site serves more than 100 kids daily (many from low-income households) benefiting from the fun, safe environment that the Club offers every day. While the building exteriors are in good shape, the interiors require significant repair and fresh, new amenities.

Outdoor Experience

Summary
Our 5000 sq. ft. Wilderness Outdoor Experience provides 700 Club members annually with exciting outdoor games and activities. We need your help for an extensive remodel to keep serving its great purpose of maximizing outdoor space where kids can experience a safe and fun environment.

Summary
The 400 square-foot Teen Center Kitchen will feature a floor-to-ceiling upgrade of the current dilapidated kitchen, allowing the Club to fulfill its mission by serving its responsible Teen Club Members and expanding activities.

Academic Support

Summary
Recent studies by the National Center for Education Statistics demonstrate the need for additional academic support of youth during out-of-school time. Power Hour: Making Minutes Count, is a homework help and tutoring program for youth ages 6 to 18 which meets the need.

  • Utilizes our highly trained staff to help youth extend their learning beyond the school day by participating in academic support, tutoring and remediation
  • Provides a healthy study environment where Club members can meet academic requirements and have confidence to engage the next day in their classroom

Mastering Literacy

Summary
Research shows that proficiency in reading by the end of third grade enables students to shift from learning to read to reading to learn, and to master the more complex subject matter they encounter in the fourth grade curriculum. STAR Readers takes the lead in equipping youth to succeeding in reading to learn.
